MUSKEGON, Mich. — A seven run first inning propelled the freshman Hawkeyes to a 9-4 victory in game one Wednesday against Reeths-Puffer, but the bats cooled en route to a 6-4 loss in game two.
The split wrapped up the season for Hamilton, who finished the year 13-6-1.
Brandon Dorn earned the win in game one to end the season with a 5-1 record. He pitched a complete five inning game while allowing only three Rocket hits. He fanned eight and surrendered only two walks.
Lead off hitter Daniel George paced the Hawkeyes with a 2-for-2 performance that included a double. The team pounded out seven hits in the game.
Brandon George (0-1) took the loss in game two. He went three-and-a-third strong innings before giving way to Chris Scholten who finished the game.
Hamilton was once again led by Daniel George. He was 1-for-1 with two walks and two runs scored.

HAMILTON, Mich. — Hamilton split their last home games of the year Monday, playing to a 1-1, six inning tie against Kenowa Hills in game one before losing 9-4 in game two.
With two games remaining the freshman record stands at 12-5-1.
Chris Scholten’s pitching performance and Will Braschler’s suicide squeeze keyed the Hamilton tie in game one. Scholten pitched all six innings while fanning three and walking two. Braschler’s fourth inning squeeze plated Brandon George for the Hawkeyes’ lone run.
Braschler took the loss in game two as stingy Kenowa Hills defense limited the Hawkeye bats. Braschler (0-1) went one and two-thirds innings. The Hawkeyes scored two runs in both the second and fourth innings.
Game one was tied 1-1 after the fifth inning. Per MHSAA rules governing freshman play, a tie is awarded after five innings in doubleheaders. Both coaches elected to play one more inning, but neither team scored in the sixth.
