Schrotenboer falls short of state wrestling crown, still alive in lower bracket

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Corey Schrotenboer dropped his Friday morning quarterfinal match against Allegan’s Garret Smith in a close 4-3 decision.

After falling to the lower bracket, Schrotenboer defeated Smiriden’s Corey Cordero 4-2 in an afternoon match to keep his chances for third place alive.

He is set to wrestle Belding’s Josh Headworth in his first match Saturday.

Schrotenboer advances to second round of MHSAA wrestling championships

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Corey Schrotenboer has advanced to the second round of the MHSAA wrestling championships after defeating Yale’s Matt Manger Thursday in a 5-0 decision.

Schrotenboer will face Allegan’s Garret Smith in the quarterfinals. The freshman defeated Kingsley’s Austin Sanchez by a 10-5 decision in his first match. Smith’s record currently stands at 45-6.

The quarterfinal match will take place at around 11 a.m. Friday.
